Food for thought supermarket visit

Image
On Wednesday last week Room 16 walked down to the St Martin's New World as a part of our Food for Thought lessons. Chloe had taught us about everyday day options and sometimes options. We had to pick everyday and sometimes options for cereals, snacks, dairy and bread. This was really eye-opening and has made us think a lot about the choices we make when it comes to food.  A big thank you to our parent helper's for coming with us to the supermarket. :)

On Friday Ōpāwa School were hosts for the World Fish Migration Day event. We were lucky enough to go and explore the different stalls and find out more about the survival and migration habits of different fish. This winds up the Whaka Inaka whitebait regeneration project which the Senior school have been helping with.

Whitebait monitoring - Whaka Inaka

Image
Recently myself and two helpers (Brooke and Matthew) went down to the river to check on our whitebait bales. We are working with EOS Ecology in a project to promote whitebait regeneration. Have a look on their Facebook page for more information -  https://www.facebook.com/Whaka-Inaka-1492048174455601/                   We checked the bales for their condition, see whether the pest cards have had any activity and report any other damage to EOS so their team can repair the site if required.  Here are some photos of us checking out the whitebait  sites.  One of the pest detector cards that had been very damaged by an unknown visitor.

Week 7 - Term 1

Wow, what a busy start we have had to the year with Beach Education, Swimming at Waltham, Cycle Safety and Hagley/Hansen Park sport underway. All students have been given their Riverways Home Learning sheets for the year and should be getting underway with their planning/projects. Everyone has also been set up with a Studyladder account and have Reading/Maths activities they can be doing at home (usernames are in their homework book). Jess :)
